The Visitors

 Martin Mouse came to visit one day;
Just moved in without invitation.
But when I saw his family at play,
I felt I should set limitations.

I allowed them one hole close to the floor,
In a corner where no one would search.
But trouble began when I opened the door,
And the cat came in with a lurch.

Harrold went this way, Harvey went that.
Matilda and Mattie did the same.
Oh what a mess with that miserable cat,
Martin had run down the drain.

I captured the kitty, and put him outside.
Cleaned the room where the mess had been made.
Stood silently watching with hands on my sides,
As the scared little mice ran and played.

Martin’s wife Hattie came and stood by my toes,
Not knowing what to say or to do.
The rest of the family with bags packed to go,
Squeaked a farewell and I’m sure a thank you.

I opened the door. The cat came back in,
With a purr and a grin on his face.
We had played our cat and mouse game again,
And got rid of the mice from our place.
